Introduction
RKY Network Speed Meter ("we", "us", or "the App") is a macOS menu bar utility designed to monitor and display network speed. We are deeply committed to user privacy and believe in a transparent, serverless, and tracker-free desktop application experience.
Data Collection & Handling
The App does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data, network activity, or device identifiers. It runs completely locally on your computer.
- No Account Registration: The App does not require registration, email addresses, profiles, or login credentials to function.
- Real-time Network Statistics: The App reads total network packet counts via standard macOS system APIs (using the
systeminformation library) to calculate and display your download and upload speeds. This throughput calculation happens entirely in real time in volatile memory. We do not inspect, intercept, analyze, or save the contents of your network traffic. - No Local Logging of Traffic: The App does not write logs of your network throughput history or visited URLs to your local disk or external storage.
- Support and Feedback: If you contact us via email for support or submit an inquiry on rky.app, we will use your provided contact details solely to assist you and resolve your query. Your information is never shared with third parties or used for any advertising purposes.
App Permissions & Operations
To operate as a status bar utility on macOS, the App requires certain standard system integrations:
- Network Interface Monitoring: The App reads active network interface metadata (such as active interfaces and cumulative byte counters) to calculate speed. It does not require packet capture permissions (packet sniffing) or root privileges, operating entirely within standard macOS application security boundaries.
- App Sandbox: The App is fully sandboxed when distributed via the Mac App Store, restricting access to your personal files, camera, microphone, location, and other system resources.
No Third-Party SDKs or Analytics
The App is completely free of any third-party analytics libraries (such as Google Analytics or Firebase), telemetry systems, crash-reporting suites, and advertising packages. No telemetry data leaves your device, maximizing both your privacy and your system's battery life.
